During October the 7th grade went on a three day two night trip to the Schoodic Education Adventure program. This program was created by National Park Rangers that are assigned to Acadia National Park. The purpose of the program is to use the resources of Acadia National Park as an outdoor classroom to help students learn. Students took a Geology Hike, a Night Hike, Worked with GPS units, did an Art project, participated in a Mock Archeology Dig, did some Marine Investigations (tide pooling) and even got to do a little hands on Marine Chemistry. This podcast was put together by Maddy M.

8th Grade Physical Science: Newton Scooters

The 8th grade has been studying Newton's three laws of motion. Recently they were tasked to create a "Newton Scooter" in an attempt to prove Newton's Third Law of Motion: For each action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Students were divided into 7 groups: unsaturated fat, saturated fat, trans fat, simple carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and protein.
They needed to develop 5 key points about their nutrient and then write a song, skit or poem to give as a presentation.

7th and 8th grade students in Maine enjoy the one-to-one computing ability afforded by a state program that puts a Mac iBook in the hands of each student. For a little bit of fun, I challenged some 7th graders to make a television commercial based on the now famous "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" advertising campaign. They were to show the power of students enjoying a one-to-one computer advantage with their Mac iBooks, over students that had to go to a computer lab. Thank you Sabba, Jordan, Conor and Casey.

They studied the beginnings of the religion, shari'ah, the Sunni and Shiite split, how it spread throughout the world, touched on the Crusades, and how Islam impacts the world today. One part of the unit required the students to research a topic, create a presentation, and share it with the class.

One of the assignments was to read a story about an Emperor, determine the qualities of that Emperor, create symbols for those qualities, and then create a robe using those symbols to honor that Emperor. Hi, Mr. Randall here, I'm the 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher at CMS. This summer I was lucky enough to be a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher. I worked for the National Park Service (NPS) as a Ranger so that I could learn more about the NPS and bring that knowledge back to my school. This video was an attempt to show what Saint Croix Island Historic Site has to offer. The 8th grade recently studied the origins of Hinduism and the Caste System in Ancient India. They were then tasked to create a song (Weird Al Yankovic style). One student recorded her song over the top of the karaoke version. She wanted to remain anonymous, but agreed to share it with all of you. She used GarageBand to record her song.

Gluskap is a Wabanaki legendary being. He appears in many stories that teach lessons to Wabanaki young people. This was a piece done by T.B. when we studied the Maine Wabanaki and the results of European contact. The students were required to take the facts we learned and write a script or poem to cover four parts. Pre-contact with Europeans, Initial Contact, Diseases, and Wars. They also had to create background music to go with the four parts in Garage Band. T. searched the internet for the pictures he used.
