During the Spring of 2011, Calais Middle School 7th and 8th grade students painted a banner to be used as a light blocking aid for the Schoodic Education Adventure program at Schoodic Point, Maine. The program was created and run by Acadia National Park Ranger Kate Petrie.

The 7th Grade class has been studying Passamaquoddy artifacts from the traveling kit put together by the Abbe Museum and the National Park Service. Here is a second episode based on the studies the 7th grade have done about the Wabanaki and Main'e history.
This year the Calais Middle School 7th grade have been studying the Wabanaki (a confederation of 5 Native American Tribes (Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac, Maliseet, and Abenaki) and Maine's history. This episode is by John L.

In response to the question by Pat Foster; Our students used the macbook pro to create these videos. There were actually several programs used to create these. Students searched the internet for photos and imported them into iPhoto, they created the video in iMovie '09, and transferred it into Garage Band to add voice over, music, and background noises.

This year the Calais Middle School 7th grade have been studying the Wabanaki (a confederation of 5 Native American Tribes (Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac, Maliseet, and Abenaki) and Maine's history. So far we have looked at the Maine History and the Wabanaki through pre-European contact, the years of exploration, colonization, and the years of war prior to Maine separating from Massachusetts. The students were asked to create a script that highlights these four eras. This is the first of several episodes we will be sharing. We hope you enjoy them and learn about the Wabanaki and Maine's history. This episode is by Keegan.

During October the 7th grade went on a three day two night trip to the Schoodic Education Adventure program. The purpose of the program is to use the resources of Acadia National Park as an outdoor classroom to help students learn. Students took a Geology Hike, a Night Hike, Worked with GPS units, did an Art project, participated in a Mock Archeology Dig, did some Marine Investigations (tide pooling) and even got to do a little hands on Marine Chemistry. For a little bit of fun, I challenged some 7th graders to make a television commercial based on the now famous "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" advertising campaign. They were to show the power of students enjoying a one-to-one computer advantage with their Mac iBooks, over students that had to go to a computer lab. Thank you Sabba, Jordan, Conor and Casey.

One of the assignments was to read a story about an Emperor, determine the qualities of that Emperor, create symbols for those qualities, and then create a robe using those symbols to honor that Emperor. Hi, Mr. Randall here, I'm the 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher at CMS. This summer I was lucky enough to be a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher. I worked for the National Park Service (NPS) as a Ranger so that I could learn more about the NPS and bring that knowledge back to my school. This video was an attempt to show what Saint Croix Island Historic Site has to offer. My 8th Grade History class was studying Hinduism, and the caste system. Then, using Garage Band, they had to create a song to show what they learned. This was one I did to show them what I wanted them to do. I'm using this one as a test to see if I can do this.
